Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has set his sights on top spot in Group A after his side won their first game in the competition by seeing off Villarreal 2-1.
Sergio Aguero’s injury-time tap-in gave City a crucial win, with Mancini’s men now 11/2 with bookmaker to finish first in Group A and 5/6 to reach the knockout stages.
With Bayern Munich and Napoli still ahead of City in the standings after three games, Mancini has hailed the importance of Aguero’s conversion, just when the Etihad Stadium clash looked like ending all-square.
He said: “I hope this goal will be very important – it was very important to win the first game in the Champions League.
“I think everything can happen in this group, for first place.”
City’s first two games in the Champions League ended in a 1-1 draw at home to Napoli and a 2-0 defeat in Germany to Bayern.
