Head coach Fabio Capello has warned England, who are 8/11 with bookmaker, that victory against Sweden on Tuesday is far from being a certainty.
England go into the game on the back of a famous 1-0 friendly win over Spain at Wembley on Saturday, with Capello wary of thinking that the lesser-vaunted Swedes will be easier to see off.
He warned: “What is difficult is when you play a team and you think you are better than them. Then you really need to play at the top level.
“Against Sweden it will be really difficult. After we have beaten Spain, they will come here thinking we are good, so they know they will have to play better and so will we.”
Capello will hand a senior international debut to Daniel Sturridge, who will partner Bobby Zamora in attack, while both Kyle Walker and Jack Rodwell will make their first England starts.
John Terry returns to lead the side and he will be joined at the heart of the defence by Gary Cahill.
