Simon Dyson is desperate to avoid the disappointment of last year as he aims to qualify for Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2012.
The 34-year-old is delighted with his progress this season and believes he has a good chance of making his Ryder Cup debut next September for Europe, who are 1/1 with bookmaker to triumph again.
The Englishman only just missed out on qualification last time around as he vied with Swede Peter Hanson to make one of the last remaining places on Colin Montgomerie’s team.
He played in the final qualifying event needing a victory to secure his spot in the European line-up but narrowly failed, meaning Hanson made the trip to Celtic Manor instead.
He told BBC Radio York: “I was very close last year. I did well in the USPGA and then I came back to the Czech Republic and I’ve got to be honest, I should have won that with the golf I played.
“I think I’ve improved from last year and if I can just keep doing what I’m doing, then I’ve got a very good chance.”
