Defending champion Kim Clijsters made it safely through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and is now 7/2 with bookmaker to retain her title in Melbourne.
Clijsters saw off Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 7-6, with the result ending the Dane’s ongoing search for a first Grand Slam title and also ensuring that she will drop from the top of the world rankings at the end of the tournament.
Belgian ace Clijsters moves on to a meeting with third seed Victoria Azarenka in the last four, with the Belarusian coming from a set down to overpower Agnieszka Radwanska 6-7 6-0 6-2.
Clijsters and Azarenka have never previously met in a Grand Slam, with the Belgian holding a 4-2 advantage in their head-to-head match-up.
The other two quarter-finals, which are scheduled for Wednesday, see Maria Sharapova facing fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarova and Petra Kvitova taking on Sara Errani of Italy.
