Former world number one Tiger Woods thinks Rory McIlroy will be one of his main challengers at this year’s Masters at Augusta.
McIlroy, 13/2 with bookmaker to win the US Masters, missed out on his first Major 12 months ago when he crumbled in the final round.
However, he responded by winning the US Open just two months later, eventually finishing eight shots clear of the field at Congressional.
That impressed 14-time Major winner Woods, who is 5/1 to emerge victorious at Augusta this week.
He said of 22-year-old Northern Irishman McIlroy: “He has all of the makings of being a great champion for a long period of time.
“We have seen obviously what he did last year at The Masters and how he came back at the (US) Open.
“He led, what, seven out of eight rounds in major championships last year, which is pretty impressive.”
