Manchester City, 1/9 with bookmaker to be crowned champions, need to make one final ‘big effort’ to clinch the Premier League title according to boss Roberto Mancini.
A fine 2-0 victory at Newcastle United leaves City needing to win at home to QPR to clinch a first top-flight crown since 1968, but Mancini is wary of thinking the job is done, with Manchester United level on points after a 2-0 win at home to Swansea.
Mancini warned: “It is not finished. It is important that we get three points next week. We need a big effort – there is one game more.
“QPR will be tough, they are fighting to avoid relegation. Nothing changes. It is ours to lose, it doesn’t depend on other teams any more.”
Earlier this season, City were pushed all the way by the R’s at Loftus Road, eventually winning 3-2 thanks to a goal 16 minutes from time from Yaya Toure, who took the weekend plaudits with both goals in the win on Tyneside.
