Luke Donald is determined to break his Major duck by winning the US Open in San Francisco next month after retaining the BMW PGA Championship.
Donald’s success at Wentworth, his sixth victory in the last 15 months, meant he returned to number one in the world rankings, after the former leader, Rory McIlroy, failed to make the cut at the European Tour’s flagship event.
Donald will now turn his attention to this week’s Memorial tournament in Ohio, before trying his luck at the US Open between 14th and 17th June.
He is 12/1 with bookmaker to win the US Open, while McIlroy is 9/1 to retain the title he secured 12 months ago.
Asked what was next on his wish-list after his success at Wentworth, Donald said: “Obviously win Majors. I feel I am getting closer. Every time I win it adds to my confidence. These victories are key to bringing that confidence into the Majors.”
