Paul Casey is targeting a return to the top echelons of the game after missing out on this year’s Ryder Cup.
Casey has had a season to forget after injuring his shoulder in a snowboarding accident last Christmas and was never in contention to be selected for Jose Maria Olazabal’s side, who are 11/8 with bookmaker to win next month’s contest in Medinah.
The 35-year-old participated in three consecutive Ryder Cups from 2004-2008 and believes he can recapture the kind of form that saw him rise to number three in the world rankings three years ago.
“I’ll be playing mainly on the European Tour (next year), and the aim is to get back into the winners’ circle,” Casey told Europeantour.com.
“But I believe my best years are still ahead of me, because I feel I’m capable of playing better golf than I did in 2006, or 2009. This year’s been tough, so I’m already looking forward to the remaining events this year and getting off to a fast start next year.”
