Australia fast bowler Brett Lee has called time on his international cricket career by announcing his retirement from one-day and Twenty20 matches.
Despite missing part of the recent ODI series with England through injury, the 36-year-old was expected to represent Australia at the Twenty20 World Cup, a tournament the Baggy Greens are 9/2 to win with bookmaker.
However, Lee has decided to call it quits after another injury, claiming it wouldn’t be fair to take up a spot in the squad for the T20 tournament in Sri Lanka.
“I think personally in a team environment you have to have 100% commitment – mentally and physically, “ Lee told Australia’s Channel 9.
“And I guess looking at the next few months I just didn’t have that desire any more.
“It wouldn’t be fair on me, or my team if I went with that attitude. You get to the point in life where you say enough is enough.”
Lee will continue to play one-day and Twenty20 cricket in Australia and the Indian Premier League.
