England star Kevin Pietersen may be about to end his Test career, hinting that the crucial third Test against South Africa at Lord’s could be his final international outing.
The powerful right-hander has already opted out of ODI and Twenty20 cricket and now says that he could call time on his Test career due to a number of factors which he will explain at the end of the current series.
Pietersen told BBC Test Match Special: “I can’t give any assurances that the next Test won’t be my last. I would like to carry on, but there are obstacles that need to be worked out.
“It would be a huge shame. I love playing Test cricket for England, but…we’ll see.”
England, who are 21/10 with bookmaker to win at Lord’s, need to secure a victory in the final Test to ensure a 1-1 draw in the three-match series and retain their position at the top of the world Test rankings.
