Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has revealed former manager Mick McCarthy’s departure from the club has hit the players hard.
A poor run of results, culminating in Sunday’s 5-1 home defeat at the hands of local rivals West Brom, led to McCarthy being relieved of his duties, with Alan Curbishley at 1/4 with bookmaker to replace him at the helm.
Doyle believes the players should take some responsibility for the team’s predicament and insists he was fully behind McCarthy, despite having recently lost his spot in the starting line-up.
“I still respected him 100% and wanted to do well for him. Players wanted to do well for him and that makes it a bit harder when he does have to leave,” said the striker.
“We all respected him massively and got on with him as a person and not just as a manager.”
