Mark Webber has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Red Bull to keep him with the team until the end of 2013.
The Aussie driver is having another good season, winning his second race of the year at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, and is priced at 11/2 with bookmaker to win the 2012 Drivers’ Championship.
Despite his recent success, speculation had indicated the 35-year-old could leave Red Bull at the end of the 2012 campaign and join Ferrari.
While Webber admits he did speak to Ferrari about a move, he insists he is delighted to have signed a new one-year contract with Red Bull.
“I’ve been with Red Bull Racing since 2007 and have achieved nine grand prix wins during that time. I’m high on confidence at the moment and firing on all cylinders,” said Webber.
“I know the team well and I’m very comfortable here; we have grown together over the years and it feels like absolutely the right thing to stay with Red Bull for another season.”
