Jenson Button set the fastest time during the first day of practice for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Michael Schumacher was quickest in his Mercedes in a damp second practice session after Button, 5/1 with bookmaker to win the race, set a time of one minute 27.560 seconds earlier in the day. Schumacher, 12/1 to win the Australian Grand Prix, came in 1.6 seconds adrift of the McLaren driver in the second session.
Red Bull were expected to set the pace but Mark Webber finished fifth in the morning session, with world champion Sebastian Vettel 11th.
The German finished 10th in the afternoon with Webber 11th. However, they are expected to improve hugely in practice on Saturday morning ahead of qualifying.
