Justin Rose shot one of the best rounds of his career to take the lead after the opening round of the BMW Championship, a tournament he is 9/2 with bookmaker to win.
Rose shot an eight-under-par 63 to take the lead at Cog Hill, with his only bogey coming at the 13th.
He goes into the second round with a two-stroke lead over Mark Wilson and Webb Simpson, who is 4/1 to win the tournament.
The Englishman rated the round as “comfortably” the best that he has played in 2011 and among his ten best ever.
He admitted: “I certainly probably didn’t expect that going out there today. I struck the ball as good as I think I’ve ever hit it.”
