Phil Mickelson believes his best years lie ahead of him, despite a failure to add to his Majors tally this season.
With Tiger Woods a shadow of his former imperious self, Mickelson, who is 10/1 with bookmaker to win the US Masters next year, was widely expected to win at least one Grand Slam event in 2011.
However, the left-hander failed to deliver in the US Masters at Augusta and then put in disappointing displays at the US Open and PGA Championships, with the Open Championship the one exception as he finished joint-second thanks to a last-day charge.
But Mickelson, who has won four Majors, insists he is happy with how he is striking the ball and is looking forward to a much better return next year.
The 40-year-old said: “I feel like I have some of my best golf (ahead of me). I’m striking the ball better than I ever have. I feel like 2012 is going to be one of my best years.”
