Jockey Ruby Walsh remains concerned over the fitness of Kauto Star, with a final decision on his Cheltenham Gold Cup participation set for Monday.
The 12-year-old, 7/2 with bookmaker to win the big race for the third time, suffered a fall during a training run just over a week ago, but the noises coming out of the Paul Nicholls stable ever since have been positive.
However, Walsh told the Irish Post: “There’s a chance Kauto Star will run, not a great chance, not even a good one. Just a chance.”
Owner Clive Smith has already confirmed that the final decision will be taken on Monday, with the Gold Cup set for the Friday of the Cheltenham Festival.
Kauto Star won the race in both 2007 and 2009, but was well beaten back in third place 12 months ago, with Long Run first past the post ahead of Denman.
