Team GB’s women’s football coach Hope Powell is expecting a tough test when her side face Canada in the Olympic Games quarter-finals.
A superb 1-0 win over Brazil at Wembley gave Powell’s side top spot in their group and they are now 9/2 with bookmaker to win the Olympic title.
However, Powell is wary of taking the Canadians lightly, especially with Melissa Tancredi in their ranks. She is the leading scorer in the tournament to date with four goals in three games.
“Canada are a decent side, their group was tough,” Powell warned. “It will be a hard contest. I know their manager John Herdman and their fitness levels are ten times better than they used to be.”
England have a goalscoring hero of their own though in the shape of left-back Steph Houghton, who has scored in each of Team GB’s three games to date.
