Ben Westwood is close to a return to action for Warrington, but won’t make Friday evening’s play-off opener at home to Huddersfield.
Westwood has been battling a knee problem but is hopeful he will be back before the end of the year. His outstanding season so far with the Wolves, who are 11/10 with bookmaker to win the Grand Final, was recognised earlier this week when he was named in the Super League Dream Team.
“I won’t be back this weekend, but I’m really hopeful about my chances of making it back for the week after,” said Westwood.
“It’s usually frustrating sitting on the sidelines – and it has been for me – but the lads have been playing very well recently so it’s not so tough.”
Warrington head coach Tony Smith faces a selection headache ahead of Friday’s clash. Full-back Brett Hodgson may return following injury, although Chris Riley has also been in great form and will be hard to dislodge.
