Former Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats star Gareth Ellis will be back in Super League in 2013 after asking to leave NRL outfit Wests Tigers.
Ellis has been in Australia for four years, but the 30-year-old has asked to be allowed to head home with another year left on his Wests contract.
The decision is sure to alert a number of Super League clubs, with Leeds Rhinos, who are 11/2 with bookmaker to be crowned Grand Final champions this season, reported to be one of the interested parties.
“It has been a major decision for Gareth,” said his manager David Howes. “He feels the time is right to return home.
“He had an understanding with Wests Tigers about 2013 and they have been top class in the matter. They said they wouldn’t have any problem releasing him for family reasons, as long as he didn’t go to another NRL club.”
