St Helens centre Michael Shenton has been omitted from England’s Four Nations squad after dislocating his elbow in Saturday’s Grand Final defeat to Leeds.
Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow is also injured as England, who can be backed at 6/1 with bookmaker, attempt to win a competition that was won by Australia in 2009 and New Zealand 12 months ago.
Four of Shenton’s team-mates – James Graham, Jonny Lomax, James Roby and Jon Wilkin – have been selected for the tournament, which also involves Wales.
Seven Leeds players have been included in the squad which will be captained by prop Jamie Peacock. Carl Ablett is included while winger Ben Jones-Bishop and forward Ryan Bailey receive their first call-ups.
Castleford half-back Rangi Chase has also been named in the 24-man squad while two Wigan players are included. However, Joel Tomkins has made himself unavailable amid reports he is set to switch codes and join union side Saracens.
