Amid fears the Euro 2012 finals were in jeopardy, UEFA has granted tentative approval for Poland and Ukraine to maintain hosting rights for what is one of world soccer’s most important events. Despite the backing, UEFA warned the joint hosts to speed up their preparations, insisting the hosting deal could still be annulled, sources from European soccer’s governing body said Friday. Poland and Ukraine were given the reprieve after UEFA’s executive committee met in Bordeaux to discuss a progress report on preparations for the tournament.
The government has initially agreed, that the segment of highway A2, which is nearly 106 km long, from Nowy Tomyśl to Świecko (border with Germany), will be built with concrete. – Such building will be more expensive, but then the exploitation of such highway will cost less – said Zofia Kwiatkowska, the spokesperson of Autostrada Wielkopolska. The road-building with concrete for Euro 2012 costs 22 billion zlotys more than with asphalt, whereas the preservation of concrete road is 15% cheaper. In conclusion it is worth paying more on road-building.
The German Soccer Federation has rejected allegations it has discussed with UEFA the possibility of Germany serving as co-host for Euro 2012. Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko of Ukraine has participated in a meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Committee for the organisation of the EURO 2012.
