At a press conference this morning in Bucharest, UEFA President Michel Platini announced the final choices for host cities for Euro 2012: for Poland, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław, and Poznań are confirmed. Unfortunately for Krakow, this means the city, along with Chorzów, is now out of the running. Krakow’s mayor took an optimistic tone […]

UEFA’s Executive Committee meets in Bucharest this week to chose the venues for the tournament being co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland. The cities of Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Odessa all hope to be chosen although the latter two are on Ukraine’s reserve list of venues. Odessa, a port and resort town on the Black Sea Coast, is unlikely to […]

The 2012 European Soccer Championship will be held in five Poland and five Ukrainian cities, Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported on Thursday. In Ukraine chosen will be Kiev, Doneck, Lvov, Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk. According to Polish Sport and Tourism Minister Miroslaw Drzewiecki, the UEFA’s Wednesday decision will not be final. In his opinion matches will be played on no more than […]

With these words said two years ago, Michel Platini, the head of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Executive Committee announced the host of football finals of European Championship in 2012. What is the state of stadiums’ preparation? You will find the answer in following report. With every month bringing us closer to the Euro 2012 Championships, which will take place on the Polish and Ukrainian football fields the number of skeptics and malcontents (as media often refer to as euro-sceptics) is decreasing. The assurance of […]

Turkey has offered to host the 2012 European Football Championship if Ukraine and Poland, co-hosts of Europe’s biggest football organization, back out over the economic turmoil that badly affected Ukraine, the Turkish sports minister said on Wednesday. Turkish State Minister for Sports Murat Basesgioglu told a parliamentary committee meeting that Turkey has hosted major international sporting events in the past and could competently host Euro 2012. News reports earlier said that Ukraine’s severe financial crisis was threatening the country’s ability to host the 2012 European Championship as most construction projects […]

Former Poland forward Grzegorz Lato was voted president of the Polish FA (PZPN) on Thursday in an election called to avoid FIFA sanctions and the potential loss of the country’s right to co-host Euro 2012 with Ukraine. Lato, top scorer at the 1974 World Cup, took 57 of 112 votes to win outright in the first round. He beat FA secretary-general Zdzislaw Krecina and government favourite Zbigniew Boniek, another ex-Poland forward, who got 36 and 19 votes respectively. Lato said a successful Euro 2012 was one of his main goals […]

Hard times came to Polish football. The UEFA, that once again threatened Poland to take away the organization of Euro 2012, is fed up with the fights between the Minister of Sport and the Polish Soccer Association. FIFA lost patience as well, warning about the possibility of excluding Poland from the World Championship eliminations. The UEFA communication director, William Gaillard says: ‘In the document certifying the organization of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine there is a clause stating that both football federations have good relations with its governments. In […]

Amid fears the Euro 2012 finals were in jeopardy, UEFA has granted tentative approval for Poland and Ukraine to maintain hosting rights for what is one of world soccer’s most important events. Despite the backing, UEFA warned the joint hosts to speed up their preparations, insisting the hosting deal could still be annulled, sources from European soccer’s governing body said Friday. Poland and Ukraine were given the reprieve after UEFA’s executive committee met in Bordeaux to discuss a progress report on preparations for the tournament.

The demolition of „Trojickyj” Shopping Centre near the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, which will be the main Euro 2012 arena, took only one week. In Monday, according to lack of money, the work stopped – announced the newspaper “Sport-ekspres na Ukrainie” in Tuesday. – If the demolition of the center has been really stopped, this can finally damage all our hopes (connected with organization of Euro 2012 by Ukraine) – said the chairman of the Ukrainian Federation of Football, quoted by the newspaper, Hryhorij Surkis.

If more and more real scenario was put into practice and all the matches (or almost all) should be played in Poland what would it mean for the inhabitants of our country? As it is reported (a source similar to Michel Platini) UEFA considers talking back part of the meetings from Ukraine for the benefit of Poland. There is also a possible scenario that both semi-finals and the finals would be played in our country. Would we cope with the organization of the tournament on our own and what would […]
