Mark Selby was overjoyed to reach number one in the world thanks to a thrilling win over Mark Williams in the final of the Shanghai Masters.
Selby is now 13/2 with bookmaker to win his first world title in 2012. His only previous ranking title came at the 2008 Welsh Open but he was in world-class form in Shanghai, winning the last three frames of the match to edge Williams 10-9 and usurp the Welshman at the top of the rankings.
The ‘Jester from Leicester’ said: “It’s a great feeling to be world number one, all I wanted to do was to get to the top of the sport.
“But I have to keep up the hard work because others will want to get ahead of me.”
