Chelsea are now 15/8 with bookmaker to win the Champions League after securing a famous semi-final success over holders Barcelona.
The Blues drew 2-2 in the Camp Nou to progress 3-2 on aggregate, with the achievement made all the more impressive as Chelsea trailed 2-0 shortly before half-time after having skipper John Terry sent off. This put the aggregate score at 2-1 in Barca’s favour.
Ramires’ exquisite chip drew the scores level at 2-2 on aggregate seconds before the interval and Fernando Torres ran clear right on the stroke of full-time to make sure that much-fancied Barca were sent packing.
Di Matteo said afterwards: “It’s an incredible achievement by this group of players. A lot of people had written us off and we showed again what kind of character these players have.
“They (Barcelona) are a great team, with some fantastic players. We just showed what we’re made of.”
Chelsea will face the winners of the second semi-final between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday 19th May.
