West Ham United are pleased to have completed the capture of James Collins and insist he was their first-choice target rather than Ivan Ramis, who has joined Wigan Athletic.
While Real Mallorca star Ramis was passing a medical at the DW Stadium, West Ham’s co-chairman David Gold was saying: “We were obviously interested in Ramis but we always saw James as our first preference.
“He’s been with us previously, knows the club and we always felt he would form a tremendous partnership with James Tomkins.”
West Ham are 2/1 with bookmaker to be relegated from the Premier League in the 2012-13 season while Wigan Athletic are 6/4 to finish in the bottom three.
