Ajax head coach Frank de Boer believes that Manchester United, 7/2 with bookmaker, have a good chance of winning the Europa League this season.
De Boer’s side lost out 3-2 on aggregate to the Red Devils in the round of 32, despite winning the second leg at Old Trafford 2-1.
Afterwards, the former Netherlands stalwart said: “Of course Manchester United have the possibility to win it now. There are some good teams in it, but they are one of the favourites.”
United move on to face Athletic Bilbao in the last 16 and boss Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed not to field another inexperienced line-up, with his selection against Ajax almost costing his side their place in the competition.
“I have to accept responsibility. Playing so many young players in the back four was a big ask – for a European night it was too much of a risk.”
Manchester City (11/4) are England’s only other surviving representatives, with the Citizens paired with Sporting Lisbon in the last 16.
