Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has urged current Old Trafford incumbent David de Gea to prove his worth with the Premier League champions.
United, who are 7/4 with bookmaker to retain their top-flight crown this season, will again go with De Gea for their Old Trafford showdown with Liverpool next weekend, despite the Spaniard having struggled to find his feet since his summer arrival from Atletico Madrid.
De Gea has returned to the starting eleven for United in recent weeks due to an injury to Anders Lindegaard, but he has still been in mixed form.
He conceded three times in the 3-3 weekend draw at Chelsea, but made a superb last-gasp save from Juan Mata to ensure that the Red Devils earned a share of the spoils.
Van der Sar said: “United have paid a lot of money for him and he has to come through that. David has to deal with that.”
