England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has set his sights high after agreeing a one-year deal with Manchester City.
The 30-year-old former Bayern Munich man hopes to have finally shaken off a catalogue of injuries. He also hopes to help City challenge for Champions League glory at the first attempt, with the Citizens 10/1 with bookmaker to be crowned as Kings of Europe.
Speaking to the City website, Hargreaves said: “I’ve never not played in the Champions League. It’s pretty much been standard for me every season.
“Bayern is a wonderful club – I had a great time there and won the Champions League.”
City have been drawn in the same group as Bayern, with Villarreal and Napoli completing Group A, and Hargreaves’ new club are 6/5 to reach the knockout stages of the competition.
