Owen Hargreaves has complained about being treated like a guinea pig during his time at Manchester United, who are 8/11 with bookmaker to win this season’s Premier League title.
The 30-year-old midfielder struggled with a serious knee tendon injury while at Old Trafford and, after enduring double knee surgery during the 2008-09 season, featured in only five matches for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team in his last three years with the club.
“I received some injections and my tendon was never the same,” he said. “With hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have had them. It’s difficult.”
Hargreaves made his Manchester City debut on Wednesday, scoring in their 2-0 Carling Cup victory over Birmingham City, and Roberto Mancini’s team are now 7/2 to win the competition this season.
