Roy Hodgson remains hopeful that the virus which has forced Theo Walcott to pull out of the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine will not affect any other players.
Hodgson has added Jake Livermore, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling to the squad for Tuesday’s match, which England are 5/1 with bookmaker to win 2-0.
Daniel Sturridge, 9/2 to open the scoring against Ukraine, missed training on Monday after complaining of stomach cramps, but is expected to be available to play in the game.
Hodgson said: “Now that Theo has had to go home, it was a good opportunity to invite some young players to come into the squad and enjoy the atmosphere.
“Theo has picked up some sort of bug and was violently ill while Daniel has stomach cramps. We’ve kept Theo and Daniel away from the other players but that’s why we’ve called up three players just in case some more players go down with the same symptoms.”
