EURO 2021

Soccer – Hodgson calls-up fresh faces

Roy Hodgson has decided to leave some established names at home and bring in a few youngsters for England’s friendly with Italy.

England are gearing up for their World Cup qualification campaign – for which they are 4/11 to top Group H with bookmaker – by taking on the Euro 2012 runners-up in Switzerland.
Hodgson has decided to leave out John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole in favour of some younger players.
Tottenham duo Steven Caulker and Jake Livermore, along with Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand have all been called up for the first time, while Tom Cleverley is in line for his first start for England.
Uncapped duo Jack Butland and John Ruddy are also part of the squad, along with Jack Rodwell, who is part of an England squad for the first time since Hodgson took over.
Returning to the England fold are Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick, the latter having turned down the chance to be on the standby list for Euro 2012.
