Joleon Lescott has warned Manchester City fans not to get carried away by the club’s outstanding start to the season.
The former Everton star is only too aware that Chelsea started last term well, while Manchester United thrashed Arsenal 8-2 earlier this season before being humbled 6-1 by City, 5/6 with bookmaker to win the Premier League title, last month.
Roberto Mancini’s side have won nine of their first ten games and lead the Premier League table by five points.
But speaking before the Champions League clash with Villarreal, which City are 11/2 to win 1-0, Lescott said: “It’s a great situation to be in but we won’t be taking anything for granted. Manchester United were beating teams at the start of this season, Chelsea did it last year and probably had a bigger gap when they were beating teams by the same margins.
“So we know it’s not over and it won’t be an easy task to stay there but we are determined and confident. Everyone has a blip at some stage, but we are confident that if we do drop form at any stage we can bounce back strong.”
