Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini hailed the 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic as a ‘really important’ result in his side’s quest to win the Premier League title.
The victory at the DW Stadium lifted City three points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table, with Mancini’s men now 4/9 with bookmaker to be crowned champions.
A relieved Mancini said after seeing an Edin Dzeko header decide a tight encounter: “It was about the victory not the performance. It was really important to win.”
The Citizens face another big test of their mettle next Sunday when they play host to Tottenham, who are third in the table and just five points off the summit.
“It is a big game because Tottenham are doing a fantastic season,” Mancini added. “They are a big team and it will be a fantastic match.”
City are 5/6 to see off Spurs and keep ahead of the chasing pack, while the draw is 13/5.
