Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet hopes Martin O’Neill’s revitalised side can build on the shock New Year’s Day victory against Manchester City and see off Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.
The Black Cats handed City their second Premier League loss of the season when Ji Dong-Won grabbed a last-minute goal and are 7/4 with bookmaker to go on and beat the Latics at the DW Stadium.
Mignolet, who made a string of fine saves to deny Roberto Mancini’s side a goal, said: “Hopefully the team can take the win against Manchester City as a confidence boost for the next few games and hopefully take something from them.”
Sunderland will be without Craig Gordon, Connor Wickham, Michael Turner and Fraizer Campbell for the trip to Wigan, while Wes Brown is unlikely to feature after being forced off against City.
The Latics are 13/8 to secure the win but will once again be without Emmerson Boyce.
