Macclesfield Town boss Gary Simpson accepts that Bolton Wanderers will not be taking his side lightly when they meet in an FA Cup third round clash.
The Silkmen went close to eliminating Owen Coyle’s team from the Carling Cup earlier this season, the Premier League side needing late goals by Tuncay and Martin Petrov to avoid a shock.
Macclesfield’s Moss Rose ground will be bursting at the seams to see if Simpson’s team can beat the Trotters this weekend and they are 4/1 with bookmaker to do so.
Simpson said of Bolton, who are 40/1 to win the FA Cup this season: “I don’t think it’s a good time to play them. I’m a realist and I know we’ll have to be at our best.
“Playing them earlier in the season is probably a hindrance, because we gave them a bit of a spanking for an hour when we went there, and they won’t have forgotten that. Unfortunately, it means that we aren’t going to take them by surprise this time around.”
