Frank Lampard will captain England on Saturday hoping to lead his side to a shock Wembley win over World Cup holders Spain, with the hosts 7/2 with bookmaker for a victory.
Lampard will lead out the Three Lions in the absence of Chelsea team-mate John Terry, who will return to captain his country against Sweden on Tuesday.
“They’re the best international team I can remember in a long, long time,” Lampard stated. “We all know what we’ve got to tackle tomorrow.
“It’s important we get to grips with them and imprint our game on them. We have to play to our strengths.”
England head coach Fabio Capello is also expecting a tough 90 minutes, adding: “Tomorrow will be difficult because the ball possession with Spain is very good. We will need to play quickly and try and win back the ball.”
Capello also confirmed that Manchester United youngster Phil Jones will feature alongside Lampard in the England midfield, but Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor misses out due to a hamstring injury.
