Rebecca Adlington admits she will have to battle to retain her Olympic 800m freestyle title after claiming bronze in the 400m on Sunday.
The Great Britain swimmer, who is 4/11 with bookmaker to hold on to her 800m crown, lost her 400m title to Camille Muffat of France, with American Allison Schmitt finishing second.
The 23-year-old now turns her attention to her stronger event, the 800m. The qualifying heats take place on Thursday, with the final scheduled for Friday.
“I’m going to have to fight like hell to get a medal. I know the 800m is going to be a fight, exactly the same as the 400m,” said Adlington.
“I know it’s going to be extremely tough but I am going to try my absolute hardest, just as I did on Sunday, and hopefully the crowd can pick me up as they did then and I can pick up that performance.”
