In mid 2007, Poland was abuzz after receiving co-hosting rights with Ukraine for the Euro 2012 football championship. A year from the event, the country is biting its nails with key infrastructure yet to be completed. As May came to an end, a storm drew over the Polish capital, Warsaw, and it became evident that the roof at its brand new national football stadium – built ahead of the 2012 European Championship – was not entirely waterproof. Shortly beforehand, it had become known that the staircases at the stadium were […]

Magdalena Piasecka, the president of the Convention Bureau, the municipal institution responsible for the hotels for Euro 2012 in Wroclaw, states that they have problems with accommodation of fans. The whole situation is caused by very strict limits which UEFA requires for […]

In the eastern city of Donetsk, people are riding high on a tide of football fever. In May their team, Shakhtar, won the Uefa cup. Thousands came out onto the streets to celebrate and welcome the players home. The crowd seemed oblivious to the brooding presence of a […]

It was the first time for the head of UEFA – Michel Platini to admit that Poland can organize Euro 2012 itself – Kiev should this city be late with building the stadium than such an option is plausible – quotes „Dziennik” Image experts who drop in the seat of UEFA now and than, spread their arms helplessly seeing Platini. Unfastened shirt, loose tie, and haircut right from the 80’s. Platini himself suggests not to care about his image yet he creates himself for a man who wants to have […]
After reports during Euro 2008 that Poland and Ukraine may lose Euro 2012 Michel Platini’s visits to both countries were treated as enormously important by organizers. Platini didn’t say much while in Poland, which can be read as a good sign, whereas he criticised Ukraine severely when meeting local officials. As a result, UEFA now demands that Poland prepares an allternate plan to organize the tournament all by itself. Ukraine has no problems with stadiums, which are almost finished in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk. One stadium is to be built […]
