Tennis – Federer eyes finals record

Roger Federer is delighted with his preparations ahead of the defence of his ATP World Tour finals title at the O2 Arena in London.

The Swiss, who is 9/5 with bookmaker to retain his title, took a six-week break from tennis following the US Open and looks back to his formidable best. He won back-to-back titles in Basel and Paris, and is now hoping for a record sixth finals victory.
“I’ve had a great last two weeks and before that a lot of time off for family and practice and getting some energy and some fire back,” the 30-year-old told Sky Sports.
“I’m very happy with how things are going and I couldn’t be more happy to be qualified (for the Finals) again.”
Meanwhile, 2010’s beaten finalist Rafael Nadal is also hoping to end the year on a high.
“You can be tired (at the end of the season) but when you are there and go on court and see the full crowd it’s a very, very high motivation,” said the Spaniard, who was defeated in three sets by Federer last year.
