Andy Murray, 5/1 with bookmaker to win the title, admits that he needs to improve his serve if he is to win his first-ever Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open.
Murray had few problems in dishing out a 6-3 6-3 6-1 beating to Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals, but was worried by a lowly 44 per cent of first serves going in against the man from Japan.
“I need to serve better. I didn’t serve particularly well but the returning was good, so that was a positive,” Murray said after reaching the semi-finals for the third consecutive year.
“My game has been getting better each match and I am moving better and I am going to be fresh going into the weekend.”
Murray has lost in the Melbourne final in each of the last two years, being beaten in straight sets by first Roger Federer and then Novak Djokovic, who Murray will face in the semi-finals this year.
