World number one Caroline Wozniacki is hoping to be fit for the start of the Australian Open despite suffering an injury scare at the Sydney International.
The 21-year-old Dane, who is 16/1 with bookmaker to win the first Grand Slam of 2012, was defeated 3-6 7-5 6-2 by Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarter-finals in Sydney and confirmed afterwards she has been struggling with a wrist injury.
She said: “I’m going to get it checked out and hopefully it’s ok. Let’s just hope for the best.
“I hope it’s not serious. I could feel it, especially in the third set but I should be completely fine for Australian Open.”
Wozniacki goes into the tournament still ranked as the best in the world after Petra Kvitova lost at the semi-final stage in Sydney.
