National Stadium in Warsaw, the main arena of the Polish part of the European Football Championships in 2012 will be ready as planned in June 2011 in spite of the problems related to severe winter – ensures National Sports Centre.
Polish-Ukrainian championships will start in two years on Monday.
The facility, estimated to invite 55,000 spectators, will become a sport card of the capital. During Euro 2012 an opening match, one quarterfinal and one semifinal match will be held. Here, in the future official matches will be played by the Polish team.
Very difficult weather conditions during the last winter hampered the construction of steel structure of the stadium and, as a result of this, the deadline of this stage of works was moved by a month, from June to July this year.
– Taking into account expert’s reports we accepted to postpone the deadline of the completion of the steel structure. At the same time we expect full mobilization of contractor and designers and we want to other works go quicker – stressed the President of the National Sports Centre Rafal Kapler.
– The next winter period, regardless of the weather, should not be a threat because all the rooms will be closed and heated – added Daria Kulińska, a spokesman of NCS. As she informed, the current pace of works must be regarded as a success – reinforced concrete structure has already reached the target height, in advance. By using the so-called sliding method the works on staircase were made.
Currently on the site of the National Stadium the final works on the construction of reinforced concrete basin are in progress. 22 columns and 18 elements of the so-called inner ring truss of the main steel structure, which consists of a total of 72 columns and 72 elements of the ring were assembled. All the elements required to make the main steel structure are already on the site. In the Cimolai plant in Italy last elements of the structure, this is angle ties guy-wires, which will be mounted at the end of the main steel structure are prepared. In another Italian factory in Redaelli, wire ropes for roof are prepared.
At the same time, the installation of prefabricated products is in progress. The advancement of assembly on the lower and upper stands is close to 40 per cent, and the domestic prefabricates producers have already manufactured over 90 per cent of required components.
The prefabricated products of stairs are installed. They gives viewers the access to the upper level of tribunes. In the underground floors, finishing works are in progress, as well as the works on the sanitary, mechanical and electrical installations.
The move of the completion of the works at the steel structure did not affect the other deadlines which are key to the whole investment. On November 2011 central heating is to be ready and on January 2011 the linear construction of the roof should be ready.
The National Stadium in Warsaw (55 thousand of places, cost: 1.915 billion PLN) is one of four facilities that are to host the matches of EURO 2012. Other ones are prepared in Gdansk (630 million, 44 thousand), Poznan (537 mln PLN, 42 thousand) and Wroclaw (853 million, 40 thousand).
